About me
I write and edit for businesses in a range of industries. Whatever the brief, I learn everything I can about a company, its sector and audience, and write clear, characterful, empathetic copy that reaches the right people in the best way. In 2023 I also started training company teams in clear writing and accessibility.
A bit more ...
I moved into business writing and marketing communications after many years in journalism and digital publishing. During my time as a subeditor at the Guardian, I worked on national, world, business and consumer news – in print and online, around the clock, and always with the same dedication to accuracy, clarity and empathy for the reader.
After leaving the Guardian, I joined the creative studio at Medivet as editorial lead, establishing a new style guide and championing clear writing across marketing, clinical and internal communications. In 2020, mid-lockdown, I moved to the editorial and digital team at the Financial Conduct Authority, writing, editing and publishing content to help consumers and firms at a particularly challenging time.
Freelance since 2021, my clients have included the UK's banking trade body, a multinational oil and gas company, a digital innovation agency and a wills and probate service. These businesses are all completely different, obviously, but they need the same thing: clear copy that speaks to their particular customers. That's what I specialise in.
I work from home in Canterbury. When not working I'm usually mooching around this lovely city, watching reality TV or horror films, tidying up after my toddler, playing the cello or exploring the Kent coast.
